Historical Data

Knull is a primordial being of darkness who existed before the creation of the universe itself. When the Celestials began bringing light and life into the cosmos, Knull perceived their actions as an intrusion upon the endless void that he considered his domain. In response, he waged war against them, forging a weapon from living darkness known as the All-Black Necrosword. With this weapon, he slew at least one Celestial and began a campaign to reclaim the universe from the encroaching light.

In the course of this conflict, Knull created the Klyntar, more commonly known as symbiotes—living extensions of his will formed from the same abyssal substance as his sword. These entities were initially tools of conquest, spreading across the cosmos as agents of destruction and subjugation. However, over time, the symbiotes developed independence and ultimately rebelled against their creator, imprisoning him within a constructed world made from their collective mass, which became known as the Klyntar homeworld.

Expand full history

Though imprisoned, Knull’s influence persisted across the galaxy through the symbiotes and fragments of his power. His connection to the abyss allowed him to exert control over symbiotes at great distances, and his presence could be felt wherever his creations spread. Over time, various events weakened the barriers that held him, including disturbances in the symbiote collective and the actions of individuals who came into contact with his essence.

Knull eventually reawakened and began reclaiming control over the symbiotes, reasserting his role as their god. He launched a massive invasion of the universe, culminating in an assault on Earth during the conflict known as the King in Black. Using a symbiote dragon army and overwhelming force, Knull plunged Earth into darkness and subjugated many of its defenders.

During this invasion, Knull demonstrated his power by overwhelming numerous heroes and cosmic forces. However, his campaign was ultimately halted by Eddie Brock, who, empowered by the Enigma Force and wielding the Uni-Power, was able to challenge and defeat him. Knull was destroyed in the aftermath of this confrontation, bringing an end to his direct influence over the symbiotes.

Despite his apparent destruction, Knull’s legacy continues to shape the behavior and nature of the symbiote species. His existence established the fundamental duality within the Klyntar between their original purpose as agents of darkness and their later evolution toward balance and cooperation.

Powers and Abilities

Strength Level: Knull possesses incalculable strength and operates on a cosmic scale far beyond conventional physical measurement.

Known Superhuman Powers: Knull is a primordial god whose abilities stem from his mastery over living darkness and the abyss itself. He possesses vast reality-manipulating capabilities, allowing him to shape matter and energy into weapons, constructs, and living entities. His control over this abyssal force enabled him to create the symbiotes and the All-Black Necrosword, both of which are extensions of his will.

Knull can exert control over symbiotes across vast distances, effectively commanding them as a collective extension of himself. Through this connection, he can generate massive constructs, including symbiote dragons, and overwhelm entire worlds. His power extends to the manipulation of darkness on a cosmic scale, allowing him to extinguish light and plunge entire regions into shadow.

Expand full details

Knull possesses immense durability and regenerative capabilities, enabling him to survive attacks from cosmic-level entities. He has demonstrated the ability to kill or overpower beings of extraordinary power, including Celestials, using weapons forged from his own essence. His connection to the abyss grants him a form of immortality, making him extremely difficult to destroy by conventional means.

Limitations: Knull’s power is fundamentally opposed by light-based forces, particularly those associated with creation and cosmic energy such as the Enigma Force. His connection to the symbiotes can also be disrupted or turned against him, as demonstrated when they rebelled and imprisoned him. Ultimately, concentrated cosmic power aligned with light and creation proved capable of destroying him.

Weaponry & Paraphernalia

Knull does not rely on conventional weapons or equipment; his constructs, including the All-Black Necrosword, are extensions of his own power.
