History: When criminals murdered Frank Cartelli, his son Joe vowed to avenge his father by waging a war in crime. Acquiring a belt (from sources as yet unrevealed) that generated a force field, Joe Cartelli fashioned an identity-concealing costume and went into action as the Blue Shield. In his civilian guise, he worked his way into the crime syndicate, eventually becoming the assistant to the crime boss.

Strength Level: The Blue Shield possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build, which is augmented by his force-belt.

Known Superhuman Powers: The Blue Shield possesses no superhuman powers, but is a natural athlete proficient at gymnastics and hand-to-hand combat.

Weapons: The Blue Shield's major weapon is his force-belt, which amplifies his body's natural life force (bio-energy), granting him superhuman strength, speed and near impenetrable force field. With his strength augmented by the belt, the Blue Shield is ten times as strong as the average human being, able to lift (press) approximately 1,800 pound. His reaction time is about ten times that of a normal man, and he is able to run at a maximum speed of 50 miles per hour for short length of time.

The force-belt also acts upon his bio-energy to generate an oscillating frequency of bio-energy that interacts with nearby atomic particles in a way to generate a self-supporting force field. This field, which radiates 1 inch from every point on the surface of his body, screens him from objects moving at any speed of light. Hence, projectiles such as bullets and knives would be deflected by the field, as would the fist or body of an assailant. The field does not block out sound, light, or other electromagnetic phenomena. The field is able to absorb the shock of impact of any force up to 1,000 pounds per square inch with out the Blue Shield being buffeted with in the field by the force of impact. The force field, which tends to grow blue with harmless Cherenkov radiation, is imperceptible to the touch from within, but has a warm, spongy feel from the outside.

At present, the Blue Shield is unable to extend his force field to any extent in thickness.
