DEFUNCT
The Assembly of Evil was a loose coalition of superhuman criminals brought together during a large-scale plot to eliminate many of Earth’s greatest heroes simultaneously. Unlike more structured villain teams, the Assembly of Evil was not a permanent organization but rather a temporary gathering of disparate villains united by a shared objective. The group’s formation represented one of the earliest large-scale attempts by villains to coordinate their efforts against multiple heroes at once.

The Assembly of Evil came together as part of a coordinated plan involving numerous superhuman villains seeking to strike against the heroic community. The exact leadership behind the group was less clearly defined than in other villain alliances, with various powerful figures contributing to the overall scheme. The coalition functioned more as a strategic convergence than a traditional team with hierarchy or long-term cohesion.
The group’s primary objective was to overwhelm and eliminate key heroes through simultaneous attacks, taking advantage of their divided attention. By coordinating their efforts, the villains aimed to achieve what none could accomplish individually. The scale of the operation required cooperation among criminals who would otherwise have been rivals or enemies, highlighting both the potential and instability of such alliances.
Members of the Assembly of Evil engaged in a series of confrontations with heroes across multiple locations. These battles demonstrated the dangers posed by organized villain activity, as even well-established heroes found themselves challenged by the sheer number and variety of threats they faced. Despite the initial advantages gained by the villains, the heroes ultimately managed to regroup and counter the coordinated assault.
As with many villain coalitions, internal conflicts and the lack of a unified command structure contributed to the group’s downfall. Individual ambitions and mistrust undermined their efforts, preventing them from maintaining long-term cooperation. Once their immediate plan failed, the Assembly of Evil quickly dissolved, with its members returning to their independent activities.
Although short-lived, the Assembly of Evil set a precedent for future villain alliances. It demonstrated that large-scale coordination among superhuman criminals could pose a significant threat to even the most powerful heroes, influencing later formations such as the Masters of Evil and other organized villain groups.
