In the reality designated Earth-65, Gwendolyn Stacy became the individual bitten by a radioactive spider, gaining powers similar to those of Spider-Man in other realities. Unlike her Earth-616 counterpart, Gwen survived into adulthood and became a superhero known as Spider-Woman, later also referred to as Ghost-Spider.
Gwen’s early life was shaped by her close relationship with her father, NYPD Captain George Stacy, and her friendship with Peter Parker. However, her life took a tragic turn when Peter, feeling overshadowed and desperate for recognition, subjected himself to an experimental serum that transformed him into the Lizard. In a confrontation with Gwen, Peter was mortally injured, and his death left Gwen burdened with guilt and public suspicion.
Expand full history
After Peter Parker’s death, Gwen became the target of widespread blame. The public believed Spider-Woman was responsible for Peter’s fate, and even her father, Captain Stacy, pursued her as a criminal. This tension defined Gwen’s early career, forcing her to operate as a fugitive while continuing to act as a hero.
Despite these challenges, Gwen maintained her double life as both a superhero and a musician, performing as a drummer in a band called the Mary Janes. Music became both an emotional outlet and a grounding force amid the chaos of her life as Spider-Woman.
Gwen’s activities eventually drew the attention of interdimensional forces during the Spider-Verse crisis, in which multiple Spider-powered individuals from across the multiverse were targeted by the Inheritors. Gwen joined other Spider-heroes, including alternate versions of Spider-Man, in a battle spanning realities. During this time, she proved herself a capable and resourceful hero.
Following these events, Gwen became part of the Web-Warriors, a team of multiversal Spider-heroes tasked with protecting the stability of the Web of Life and Destiny. This role required her to travel between dimensions, further complicating her already fractured personal life.
Eventually, Gwen’s identity was revealed to the public of Earth-65, including her father. This revelation led to a turning point in their relationship, as Captain Stacy came to understand Gwen’s intentions and struggles. Though still operating under legal scrutiny, Gwen was no longer entirely alone.
Gwen later spent extended periods in Earth-616, attending college and attempting to build a more stable life while continuing her heroic activities. During this time, she adopted the name Ghost-Spider to distinguish herself from other Spider-themed heroes.
Throughout her journey, Gwen has faced numerous adversaries, including alternate versions of familiar villains such as Matt Murdock (the Kingpin of Earth-65) and Frank Castle (a relentless law enforcer). Her experiences have forced her to mature quickly, balancing responsibility, loss, and identity across multiple realities.
Despite the challenges she faces, Gwen Stacy remains one of the most resilient Spider-heroes in the multiverse. Her story is defined not only by tragedy, but by her determination to overcome it and define her own path as a hero.
