Super-Skrull

Real name: Kl'rt
Occupation: Warrior
Group affiliation: None
Base of operations: Mobile
First appearance: Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #18

History: The Super-Skrull was created by order of Dorrek, emperor of the transmorphic alien race known as the Skrulls. The fabled Fantastic Four had turned back the extraterrestrials' invasion of Earth, and the monarch hoped to exact revenge against that planet's first family of super heroes. After many months, Skrull technology succeeded in bionically re-engineering a select warrior to simulate the FF's combined powers.

After completing a rigorous training program, the Super-Skrull sought out and battled the superhuman adventurers. The alien agent was defeated when Mr. Fantastic determined that a broadcast energy beam dispatched to Earth through warp space was augmenting his strength. The elastic inventor jammed the signal and helped his teammates overpower the weakened Super-Skrull. The Fantastic Four imprisoned its formidable foe on a small island in the Pacific Ocean, blocked from the energy beam's effects.

Learning of their champion's predicament, the Skrulls developed and broadcast a stronger power source. Freed from his confinement, the Super-Skrull again sought out the Fantastic Four. The transmorphic terror used his innate shapeshifting ability to disguise himself as a terrestrial villain, the Invincible Man. The alias proved to be a misnomer, as the Fantastic Four soundly thrashed the shrouded Super-Skrull. The team used him as a bargaining chip to broker the safe return of Franklin Storm, father of the Human Torch and Invisible Woman.

Granted yet another opportunity to prove his worth in battle, the Super-Skrull faced Thor -- Norse God of Thunder, wielder of the mighty Uru hammer Mjolnir. Once more, he met with defeat. Upon returning to Skrull space, the disgraced warrior was exiled for repeated failure to achieve his mission objectives. After wandering aimlessly for years, the Super-Skrull again was summoned before the emperor. The Skrulls had learned that their intergalactic rivals, the Kree, had undertaken surveillance of Earth. Fearing Kree control of this strategically important planet, Emperor Dorrek dispatched the Super-Skrull to destroy the Earth-based Kree super hero called Captain Marvel. The costumed champion, gifted with Cosmic Awareness, bested the Super-Skrull by turning his own power against him.

Despite his poor track record, the Super-Skrull was drafted into active service during the Kree-Skrull War. He successfully carried out the emperor's orders to abduct Captain Marvel, the fleet-footed Quicksilver and the hex-casting Scarlet Witch. Back on the Skrull throneworld, however, he betrayed his emperor. Subdued, the Super-Skrull was sent into permanent exile.

Though banished, the Super-Skrull continued to serve the Skrull Empire zealously. Following the devastation of the Skrull homeworld by the planet-devouring force of nature known as Galactus, Skrull factions were disbursed throughout the galaxy. The Super-Skrull subsequently came into the service of the Intelligentsia, a computerized amalgamation of his race's most potent minds. The Super-Skrull again was dispatched to Earth, this time to destroy a girl who had developed the ability to warp reality. The Intelligentsia had determined that the youngster's power was too dangerous to the universe, and that she must be exterminated before developing further. The Super-Skrull's pursuit of the girl brought him into conflict with the son of Captain Marvel, Genis. In a display of his contempt for the Intelligentsia's rule, the Super-Skrull kidnapped the Earthling instead of killing her, and brought her before the sentient computer. The second Captain Marvel pursued the patchwork powerhouse, who planned to use the young woman's talents as a weapon on behalf of the Skrull Empire. However, the Super-Skrull's power play came to an abrupt end when the girl simply wished away her awesome abilities.

Bred and raised to be the most powerful warrior of a whole race, the Super-Skrull hides on Earth, in human guise -- until a new, legitimate emperor again unites his people and orders him to act.
