In the occult from his maternal grandfather~ Viscount
Crowler, at an early age, When he became an adult, he
sought out the mystic master known as the Ancient One
in Tibet. The Ancient One recognized that Mordo had the
innate ability to become a sorcerer of great power, but
that Mordo was motivated solely by lust for power. The
Ancient One decided to accept Mordo as a disciple in order
to keep watch over him.
While still living at his mentor's palace, Mordo
plotted to destroy the Ancient One. Mordo's scheming was
overheard by the Ancient One's guest, Dr. Stephen Strange,
a jaded physician. Witnessing Mordo's power and learning
of his intent shocked Strange into a recognition of the
meaning of evil. Strange sought to warn the Ancient One,
but Mordo placed mystical restraints upon Strange that
prevented him from telling the Ancient One of his plans.
Strange, however seeking a way to get around Mordo's spell,
sincerely asked the Ancient One if he too could become
his disciple. The Ancient One, who was aware of Mordo's
schemes, freed Strange of Mordo's spell and accepted Strange
as his disciple.
Eventually Mordo left the Ancient One, and Strange,
over the years, gained mastery of the mystic arts. Strange
and Mordo were thus rivals, end have clashed repeatedly
over the years. Mordo has served the extra-dimensional
entity Dormammu in the past, but he also seeks to amass
more power for himself. Mordo is obsessed with destroying
Doctor Strange, who is now the sorcerer supreme of Earth's
dimension.
Height: 6 ft. Weight: 250 lbs. Eyes: Brown Hair: Grey
Strength Level: Baron Mordo possesses the
normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and
build who engages in no regular exercise.
Known Superhuman Powers: Baron Mordo is
a powerful sorcerer motivated by ambition and megalomania.
Though he is among the ten most powerful Earth-born sorcerers
alive today, his power pales beside that of Earth's sorcerer
supreme, Doctor Strange. Mordo's magic, like that of most
magicians, is derived from three major sources: personal
powers of the soul/mind/body (mesmerism, astral projection,
thought-casting, etc.), powers gained by tapping this
universe's ambient magical energy and employing it for
specific effects (teleportation, illusion-casting, energy
projection), and finally, powers gained through the tapping
of extra-dimensional energy by invoking entities or objects
of power dwelling in mystical dimensions, tangential to
our own. The latter means of power is usually gained by
the recitation of spells; either ritualized ones found
in various mystic texts or by original spells invoking
extra-dimensional assistance.
To begin with his personal powers, Mordo has mastered
the art of astral projection, the mental ability to separate
his astral self - the sheath of the soul, or life essence
- from his physical self and travel through space unbounded
by physical laws while retaining human consciousness.
The astral form is invisible, intangible, and incapable
of being harmed except by the most rigorous mystical means.
Mordo is of such mastery that he can remain in his astral
form for up to 24 hours before there is any corporeal
deterioration of his physical form. The physical form
is quite vulnerable to attack while the astral form is
absent. If harm were to befall the physical body while
he was in his astral form, he would be stranded in his
wraith-like state.
Mordo has the ability to mesmerize people to do
his bidding, both in person and at a distance. This mental
domination is only possible over those minds less trained
than his. His magical control over a person persists until
such time when the subject completes the finite task he
or she was given, or Mordo willfully releases him or her
from control, or the spell is broken by a superior mage,
or the spell fades from disuse. Mordo can also cast his
thoughts over short or vast distances in a manner virtually
identical with telepathy. The entire Earth is within reach
of Mordo's mind, providing he knows where to contact the
specific mind he may be seeking. Mordo can communicate
with only one mind at a time.
Mordo is able to tap this universe's store of
ambient magical energy and manipulate it for a variety
of effects. He is able to form and hurl magical energy
bolts with a high degree of potency and control. He is
able to erect energy shields or screens with a high degree
of imperviousness to both physical and magical damage.
He is able to use the local magical energy for the conjuration
of small physical objects like fetters or flowers, or
for unusual luminescent effects.
Mordo is sometimes able to utilize local magical
energy to teleport across the face of the Earth or into
a mystic dimension (certain alternate realities where
the physical laws are based on magic rather then science).
Oddly enough, teleportation within a dimension is more
taxing to a sorcerer than teleportation between dimensions.
Such expenditure of energy leaves all sorcerers (including.
Mordo) mystically debilitated for a varying length of
time, making teleportation a dangerous and seldom used
ability. Physical teleportation across time rather than
space is the most power draining type of journey of all.
Mordo has knowledge of a host of sorceries
spells and incantations invoking the names and aspects
of various extra-dimensional objects and beings of power.
Mordo (like his nemesis, Doctor Strange) is able to draw
upon these extra-dimensional power sources for very specific
effects without depleting his own capacity to draw upon
local magical power and without taxing his own personal
abilities. Some of these extra-dimensional phenomena called
upon include the Vapors of Valtorr, the Crimson Bands
of Cytorrak, and the Images of Ikonn. Some of the extra-dimensional
beings of power invoked are Dormammu, Satannish and Tiboro.
It is possible to accomplish a certain magical effect
by a number of means. An adept sorcerer like Mordo will
use the magic that least diminishes his overall ability
to draw upon the many forms of magic.
